New Meta-DNA Structures for DNA Origami
Taking a different approach to DNA origami has led to a new type of meta-DNA structure
Scientists at Arizona State University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have created a new type of meta-DNA structure that they believe will transform optoelectronics and synthetic biology. Until now, DNA origami has been limited to creating 10–100 nm DNA architectures due to the length of scaffold DNA and single-stranded tile assembly; however, Hao Yan and colleagues have built a set of micrometer-scale DNA structures using meta-DNA as building blocks. Images of these 3D DNA polyhedra, shown above, were generated using models and transmission electron microscopy.
